It is the end of another summer.
It is time for you to leave the island too.
Take a farewell look at the waves and sky.
Take a farewell sniff of the salty sea.
A little bit sad about the place you are leaving,
a little bit glad about the place you are going.
It is a time of quiet wonder… . ..
Robert McCloskey
this morning i awoke to the sound of the water outside my bedroom window. i put my phone on the deck to record their gentle crashings along the shore. to hold the waves as if in a shell all their own, recalling how my mother did the same years ago when we spent our summers on Canandaigua.
oh, how i adored those cool water sunny days on the stony edges of the lake.
still, even before i knew of the ocean
i always longed for the sweep of the sea.
and so at the end of my summer season, i take one final walk to the backside.
past the lighthouse,
up to Whitehead.
last day
first light
i consider all of what Monhegan teaches me… . ..
for it is on this island, i have learned to make a fire and bake a loaf of bread. i have learned what sustains me in the darkest night.
to know when is my time both to listen and leave, but also know there is a time to leave
i’m left to wonder:
can i be this person inshore,
the one i have found in myself on island?
Monhegan is everywhere i want to be,
and
an island can only take you so far…
it is time.
i am ready to go home.
so listen for the horn of the afternoon boat
calling me “all aboard”
reminding me:
there is nothing to miss, there is always more
thanks for reading ~ i’ll sea you on the other side

holding and being held: in conversation with anne leighton massoni
at this critical historical juncture, abortion stories can no longer be held in secret or shame. they must be shared in support and service to generations of future women, to actively be unspoken no more.
be it through the act of writing or reading, my deepest gratitude to all who shared in story ~ thank you instruments of memory for the opportunity to work together again.

together we will weave ancient yoga teachings into a contemporary tapestry. to map and make meaning of our bodies and embodied experiences. each workshop will begin with a theme, a narrative thread to be tugged and teased through the practices of asana, pranayama, guided meditation, and writing to create a more spacious container of our whole self:
from breath to pen, mat to page
this series is for anyone ready to explore how yoga + writing complement each other to become an embodied practice
sign up for each workshop as a stand-alone offering or register for the entire series
beginning October 9, 3-4:45pm EST

butter boards. spread the word. because fun fact: before there were (gummy) bears, there was butter. pats of butter. so i’m definitely giving this tik tok trend a try
