Thank you for opening yourself to us. Anticipatory grief so often leads to a deeper awareness of living in the moment. Being present. How the loss of a pet, who loves us unconditionally and knows all our secrets, can be more profound than a person.

You made the right call in cancelling the June retreat. One day at a time. Xo

one day at a time for sure ~ thank you Amie. when we welcome a pet into our home, we open ourselves to eventual, devastating heartbreak. we know, and yet we still take it on. but two stalwart companions in one year? well....that's a lot of life on life's terms, but olive and abby know I'm ready to take these next steps on my own. xo

Oh, Sarah. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of your sweet companions, but also glad to hear that you are making space and time for your grieving and caretaking and that you have found Gertie. You are modeling much that is powerful here, which is itself a gift. ♥

I have a lot of guilt about how I was and wasn't there for Abby during her last two months of life, for it was another time I was faced with a choice about where and where not to be. That time I chose to leave her in John's good care and return to Monhegan. This time, I am choosing differently. It is my amends to Abby; it is a gift to Olive and myself.

There's no right way or wrong way, as you know, just different ways that each have their own consequences. Now you will experience a different way. 🫶

So sorry to hear that Olive is struggling, Sarah. The love & support you’ve given each other is that incredible bond between animal & human. It sounds like that bond has already begun between you & Gertie…life is such a journey.
